See Música para Respirar in action in this video! |
Música para Respirar 24/7 (Music to Breathe) is a project where top musicians from around the world are available 24 hours a day for a week, to play virtual, personal and free 1:1 concerts for anyone in need of a musical respite. It was conceived as an art installation in solidarity with the health care workers and Covid patients in Bolivia in August of 2020. Since then, it has reached over 8,000 people in 48 countries and it’s growing rapidly, especially in communities in Latin America with little or no access to live classical music prior to the pandemic.
Música para Respirar 24/7 will be presenting 50-minute concerts for the Boston Public Schools connecting with the 3 following themes:
1. Latinx representation in the classical music genre, specifically band/orchestra/chamber music
2. Social justice: learning how musicians started a grassroots movement for creating a positive impact for people in Bolivia and Latin America
3. Music as a universal language & its application for public health and wellbeing

Kathakas
February 10th | 10 to 11 AM | Grades K-8 In partnership with Young Audiences of Massachusetts The ancient art of Kathak is one of the eight forms of classical Indian dance. Its name comes from the Sanskrit word for “story.” Kathak dancers use swift and precise footwork and graceful gestures to tell traditional Indian stories. Through movement, music and math, Kathakas perform “Kathak Yoga” – a technique which unifies the recitation of taal (rhythm), the singing of a melody and the dancing of complex footwork and rapid spins. Students will learn to count out complex poly-rythmns to help the dancer keep time and a few volunteers may learn some basic Indian dance steps. Performances are tailored to the grade levels of each audience. For older grades, performeres delve deeper into rhythm, math, history and philosophy. Website |
