Students will be able to sing "Bought Me A Cat" alone and with others.
Procedure:
Teach "Bought Me a Cat" to students by rote using gestures or whole-body movements to help students differentiate between each animal. To check for understanding, ask students what sound each animal made out of order (i.e., ask what sound the duck made, then the cat, then the dog, etc.). Model the worksheet to students by tracing and writing the name of the animal and making the sound after each. Emphasize letter sounds to help students connect sound to spelling. Students should complete the worksheet alone, then sing through the song using the worksheet with a partner, at which point individual mastery of the task can be assessed. *Possible extension: Post the visual worksheet for students to review the order of the animals in a future lesson before flipping it around. Students may also accompany animal sounds with different classroom percussion instruments! |
