Connections: Math/Reasoning/Writing
Students will be able to sing "Five Green and Speckled Frogs" alone and with others.
Procedure:
Teach "Five Green and Speckled Frogs" to students by rote using finger motions or whole-body actions to demonstrate frogs jumping off the log, one by one. Student questions: How many frogs start on the log? How many remain at the end of the song? Students can help count forwards and backwards from 5. Prepare and distribute a "Five Green and Speckled Frogs" book to each student (print double -sided, assemble and staple). Students will complete the book by practicing counting the frogs on each page and writing the corresponding number. As students finish, they can be paired with other students to sing the song from beginning to end first by using the books, then without. *Possible extension: Students may use their books in a performance setting |
