Late 3rd - 5th Grade Active Listening Scaffold
Making Music Listening Purposeful & Accessible
Making Music Listening Purposeful & Accessible
This listening response scaffold is most ideally used to make instrumental listening tasks accessible to late 3rd - 5th grade students -- Especially when used in a listening journal to keep record of listening tasks.
This scaffold demonstrates how to compartmentalize what students are listening to through a model of what a "great listening response" looks like in terms of formatting and sentence structure. Many students need the sentence starter scaffold to help them get to the meat of their thoughts -- The model also helps eliminate some typically weak one-sentence listening responses, as it prompts students to think more deeply and purposefully about what they're hearing, what their opinions are, and most importantly, the "why"s. This scaffold is best used after significant teacher/whole class-modeling. |
