Instrument Rental

Dear Parent/Guardian,
BPS Visual and Performing Arts Department supports standards-based instrumental music instruction. In order to ensure broader access to instrumental music programs, families may rent concert band and orchestra instruments through the district’s Instrument Warehouse. Students must be enrolled in a BPS school instrumental music program in order to rent BPS instruments. The non-refundable fee is as follows:
  • $40.00 for school year rental (September – June)
  • $20.00 for summer rental (for the BPS Summer Arts band and strings program only)

Rentals must be through a BPS music teacher, and in conjunction with a school-based music or district-wide arts program. We are unable to rent instruments directly to families.

Guidelines for Instrument Rental

  • All fees must be made payable to the Boston Public Schools. Money orders are preferred. Please note that renters will be charged $35.00 (in addition to the rental fee) for returned checks.
  • Renters are responsible for instrument care and maintenance throughout the rental period.
  • In the event of lost or damaged instruments, renters are responsible for the cost of repair or replacement.
  • For additional insurance, families may consider including rental instruments on their home or rental insurance policies.
  • An instrument may be recalled at any time for:
    • inadequate class participation or home practice,
    • consistent failure to bring the instrument to school,
    • unpaid rental fee, or
    • abuse of the instrument

Parent/Guardian permission is required
for any student to participate in a BPS instrumental music program. Please fill out the rental agreement below and return a money order to your school music teacher. Your child’s music teacher will process the request and answer any questions you may have.

Thank you for supporting your child’s music education. We hope to see you at a performance this year!
Sincerely,

Emmanuel Toledo
