SCRIBE Boston
Dear Educator, here is an application form and submission guidelines for a new publication, SCRIBE Boston, that will be published annually beginning in Spring 2011. It is being published by the team that worked together on the youth editions of the Roxbury Literary Annual for a few years at ACT Roxbury (and one new member). SCRIBE Boston welcomes poetry, short stories or prose submissions from students who live in the city of Boston and attend school, grades 6 – 12. We are looking for writing on a broad variety of topics and encourage students to be creative and to submit their best work. Students whose writing is selected for publication will be invited to attend a one-day writing workshop with professional writers. They will also attend a public reception where they will be invited to read from their work. Should you have questions about SCRIBE Boston, please feel free to contact me, via this email (info@scribeboston.org) or via phone at 617-620-5557. Thank you in advance for spreading the word about SCRIBE Boston and getting students to submit work.
Boston Lyric Opera offers showing of Aida for high school groups at Coolidge Corner Theatre
Exciting field trip opportunity for teachers and parents! Boston Lyric Opera and the Coolidge Corner Theatre present Verdi’s Aida in HD from the Bregenz Festival, starring Tatiana Serjan, Iano Tamar and Rubens Pelizzari, conducted by Carlo Rizz and staged by Graham Vick. Watch Aida come to life for your students on the famous floating stage of the Bregenz Festival in Austria! The story of the Ethiopian princess in love with her captor and driven to deceit by family loyalty is full of educational opportunity for your music, history, literature, theatre and humanities students. Slightly updated to reflect the timelessness of the struggles of war, this innovative production of Aida was called a “highly imaginative, opulently coloured new production” by Paris’s Agence France-Presse and the UK Telegraph said it has “spectacle at every turn.” The running time is 2 hours and 30 minutes, including one intermission. It is sung in Italian with English subtitles. Friday, November 12 at 9:30am at the Coolidge Corner Theatre, 290 Harvard Street, Brookline. Tickets are $10 per person and can be reserved by calling 617.542.4912 x242 or emailing jhouse@blo.org. Payment will be due when you arrive at the theatre. For a detailed synopsis, production information and program notes, go to http://www.blo.org/matinee.html.
